Week 7: Practise makes perfect, and repetition is the key to success.
And patience. That is also very key here. This is the all-encompassing phrase for the week. Everything takes time, and you don’t realise it the first time you partake in an activity, nor the amount of effort you have to put in. For example, this week I picked up the casts that I ordered last week, and they look super! All the details are still prominent, and they look really well done. But gosh, the price 😵💫. It almost put me in shock. But after I left, I was so giddy with excitement to show them off to my flatmates that I almost concussed myself, hitting my head on the edge of a table (oops). I also went and bought a chain for the piece I will donate to the museum, which I was really happy with, but on second thought…although the chain is nice and does suit it, it does not visually support the pendant well enough. So, I will make one instead. It’s a bit annoying, but I also don’t want to rush and slap on a chain to the piece and call it a day. Byron (from the museum) said something that really resonated with me: “This piece needs to be still relevant to your practice and your work in ten years. Looking at your piece, can you see that?” Can I see that?… I think so…
Circling back to the casts, I am so glad that I brought my amazing pair of end cutters with me. If not for them, I would have painstakingly sawed every sprue off one by one, but despruing was quick and painless - snip, snip, snip. Filing took a bit longer than I hoped, but all in all, the whole clean-up process took me two days, so it was fairly quick.
On Wednesday, I went to the Athens Concert Hall to see a ballet, and it was so engaging and different from any ballet I’ve seen before. I really enjoyed it, and it made me want to dance again. I was also supposed to go see a basketball game on Thursday, which I was really looking forward to, as I’ve never been to a game before, but it turned out that our tickets were invalid since we bought them off a resale website called viagogo. Lesson learned: never buy from this site. It turned out to be a huge scam, but thankfully, we are getting our money back.
